Gabrielle Giffords

As I watched C-Span voting on the bill to raise the debt ceiling, applause broke out in the House.  Gabrielle Giffords returned to the House to cast her vote.  I teared up as I saw her surrounded by members of the House and all the members standing and applauding her.

I remember the day she was shot in the head and prayers from all over went out to her and her family, as well as those that were also injured and those that lost their lives that day.  We must remember that even though the Constitution gives us the right to bear arms, it does not give us the right to shot innocent people.  Events like the one that happened on that day only gives more ammunition to those who want to take away the rights we were given in the Constitution.

Many, who want to change our government back to honor our Constitution do not believe in violence to achieve the goal of smaller government.  That is the way it should be.  Violence only promotes more violence.  Most of  us have already seen enough in our lives.

For those who believe that small government and less spending is the best way for our country to go, the best thing that we can do to make a difference is to reread the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.  We need to not only educate ourselves, but our children.  We need to stay educated about what our government is doing and take action in a civilized manner.

Welcome back Congresswoman Giffords.
