The Golden Rule

Today as I read articles that talk about this country, I can't help but think of the Golden Rule.  What happened to the Golden Rule has also happened to Common Sense.  Both have disappeared.

When I was growing up, we slept with our windows open, no air conditioning at the time.  We slept with our doors unlocked.  We had trust in our neighbors. We would go out and play with all the neighborhood kids, knowing that someones parent was always watching.  It was common practice to be "neighborly".  Everyone knew everyone. When a family was down and out, either the neighbors or the church was there to help. Parents took time out to spend time with their children and teach them right from wrong.  Parents had control of their children.  Not like today.  Parents would "spank" their children, and we learned from it.

Our parents were involved with our schools and our recreation.  Now days, it seems as though parents have let TV, PlayStation, cell phones, etc. entertain the children instead of getting involved with what they are doing.  It is no wonder we hear of some many kids getting into trouble.

In times, such as we are in now, maybe the family unit needs to be re-examined.  Maybe, it is time that we look at our children in a different way.  Maybe, we should get more involved in what is going on in their lives.  I believe that most of the problems the children have today is due to the lack of family involvement.  Why not take some time and spend it with your children and get to know them?  Why not teach your children how to be careful and wary of strangers and let them discover themselves and their imaginations.  Our Children need to be inventive and productive.

Here is a good article I hope you will read: 20 signs that the fabric of american society is coming apart at the seams.
